Thank you for considering a submission to Shorefront. Shorefront is a historical organization the collects, preserves and educates people about Black history on Chicago’s suburban North Shore.
Shorefront Journal began as a four-page quarterly printed piece in the summer of 1999. Since then Shorefront released 35 issues with more than 60 contributing writers. The online journal takes its place with the goal of reaching a broader audience. You can download several PDF samples of the original Shorefront Journal at the Shorefront website.
Shorefront welcomes the work of novice and professional writers and will make every effort to assure timely consideration of submissions. Shorefront cannot guarantee a decision on posting of any submissions.
Annually, a selection of articles will be compiled into a printed journal for distribution. If your submission is selected, you will be notified and will receive a complimentary copy of the printed journal.
To submit profiles/biographies, historical articles, short stories, or general history, (word count 500-1500 words) please send the complete article along with a short biographical information on the author.
If you have images, please include a small selection as well. Be sure to clear all rights for use. All images should be at least 300 dpi and saved as a .jpg file. In many cases, Shorefront holds more than 2,000 archival images and may be used to help illustrate submissions.
Shorefront reserves the right to edit for length and clarity. Shorefront reserves the right to repost, print or utilize submissions in work consistent with Shorefront’s mission.
